WHAT DO I DO AND WHY DO I DO IT?

I bring humorous and heartfelt stories to the stage, inspired by my lived experiences, mined for universal emotions. Currently, this manifests as solo theatre, where I develop characters based on earlier versions of myself and others who have crossed paths with me during the transformational life experiences I center my work on. These experiences often deal with a tension between a childlike innocence, where anything is possible, and what should be done to fit into the “real” world. In Abbey’s Box, I explore this as it relates to romantic love, while in I’m a Businessman, Man, I take on the realms of career and purpose. Training in clown, storytelling, puppeteering, and theatre, alongside a lot of therapy and spiritual practice, allows me to create and embody characters that are visceral and vulnerable with levity. Authenticity, openness, and finding humor in the dark and mundane are the guideposts that I use to create playful, wry, and deep solo performances.

I love building camaraderie and connection with my audiences. How do I do that? I say my specific quiet things loudly and with an open heart. And why would I do that? Because I want to live in a world where everyone lives authentically and moves beyond limiting beliefs. A world where people trust in the universality of our emotions and feel connected to each other as humans. A world where we believe that we are not stuck and powerless, that we have agency and are strong, most especially when we share our experiences and act together. I want people to see my shows and feel togetherness, to be curious about what is unsaid in their lives, to want to further connect.

I spent much of my life thinking that being an artist was reserved for special people and that I couldn’t possibly be one of those. After a few soul-shaking wake-up calls about how I was living my life, I realized that I wasn’t living my life. That realization is what drove me to claim my artist identity, an identity that I believe we all have inside of us. An identity that, for me, tells the world how I am choosing to live: I am observing, I am questioning, I am processing, I am transforming, I am creating, I am sharing, I am connecting. For me, being an artist is a lifelong pursuit to live more in line with my truths.
